CRMY's MeMoSA® campaign aims to address the critical issue of access to treatment for low-income rural cancer patients in Sarawak. By supporting the transportation expenses, we ensure these patients can reach medical facilities to receive essential treatment for oral cancer. • Breakdown:
  • Based on preliminary data, at about 2% of individuals undergoes screening may need specialist care.
  • CRMY is targeting to screen about 17,000 patients.
    • 17,000 patients x 2% = 340 individuals may require specialist treatment
  • Targeting at 75% of 340 patients require travel support of RM250 per round trip;
    • 340 x 75% = 255 Patients
    • 255 Patients x RM250 = RM63,750

Risk & Challenges

Navigating the MeMoSA® campaign's success hinges on surmounting several obstacles. Limited healthcare accessibility in rural areas, compounded by deeply ingrained beliefs in traditional remedies, poses a significant challenge. High transportation costs exacerbate the issue, often forcing patients to choose between seeking treatment and meeting other financial obligations. Moreover, cultural stigmas surrounding cancer add another layer of complexity. Overcoming these hurdles demands a comprehensive strategy that combines community education, logistical support, and culturally sensitive approaches to ensure equitable access to vital oral cancer treatment for all individuals in Sarawak's underserved communities.

Campaign Description/Rational of the campaign

Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) is the only non-profit organisation in Malaysia dedicated to saving lives through impactful research in Asians. We are developing new ways to prevent, detect, and treat cancer more effectively, and improve survivorship among Asians.

CRMY has developed MeMoSA® (Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere) App as a telemedicine tool that facilitates screening and teleconsultation increasing the reach of oral cancer screening programs and oral healthcare to remote areas. This first digital health solution for oral cancer in Malaysia is to be implemented in low-resource settings that require the most assistance. MeMoSA® enables the capture of images of suspicious lesions in the mouth that are sent to a dental specialist for a referral decision helps to overcome the geographical barriers that deter patients from seeking a consultation with specialists who are located only in major cities.

Cancer research is crucial to ensure that survivors live longer and have better quality lives. Research also helps identify the causes of cancer and paves the way for improved methods of diagnosis and treatment. These solutions will benefit all segments of society across Asian countries, with a special focus on closing the care gap for low-income and poor communities (B40 in Malaysia). With MaybankHeart, we aim to improve the accessibility for all low-income cancer patients in rural Sarawak to seek appropriate medical treatment.

As our work is funded entirely by donations, the kind support of the donors will help us continue translating our scientific discoveries into practical, effective treatments for needy communities.

5. At Shopping Cart, once you click ‘Proceed to Redeem”, you will be requested to login your Maybank2u account for payment and points redemption.

      2. Click “Continue” to proceed check out.

      1. Input preferred number of points at “Points to Redeem”, balance amount to pay will be auto calculated and display at “Balance to Pay”.
      2. At “Pay from”, select preferred card to pay for the balance amount.

      1. At “Pay from”, select preferred Card to pay for full amount.
      2. Click “Continue” to proceed check out

      1. Select preferred Card at “Pay from”,
      2. “Tick” on Apply Maybank EzyPay (Note: this option will automatically available with minimum RM500 at “Balance to Pay”

6. Upon selecting “Continue”, delivery address will be auto-populated as per Maybank2U Credit/Debit card billing address. Please ensure delivery address information is in order, including contact number and email address. You may edit delivery address if require to deliver to alternative address.
7. A Transaction Authorized Code (TAC) will be sent to you via SMS to authorize the redemption transaction.
8. Key in the TAC Number and click Confirm.
9. Please allow a few seconds for the redemption transaction to be processed.
10. Upon successful redemption, logout and close the Maybank2U page.
11. The order is now completed and you may print a copy of the receipt as record of the redemption made and to track the delivery of the items redeemed.
12. You will also receive an Order Confirmation via email.
